The MU Police Department is investigating an assault that occurred near McDavid residence hall on Oct. 12.
According to the MUPD, a resident was taking trash to a dumpster when she felt someone grab her shoulder and spin her around.
The suspect then placed a hand over the woman's mouth, and then pressed his body against her and fondled her breast through her clothing, said MUPD Capt. Brian Weimer.
The release stated the victim did not report any injuries and did not receive medical attention.
Weimer said the subject was described as a slender man in his 30s with scruffy brown hair. The suspect wore a brown jacket, appeared dirty and smelled of alcohol, he said.
"We're always looking for ways to make sure that our students are safe while they are here on campus," MU spokesman Christian Basi said. "There are multiple factors that play into staying safe on campus. Any time we do an investigation, we look at whether there were ways in the future we could prevent that from happening."
The MUPD sent a Clery release to students on Oct. 13 in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act of 1998.
Director of Residential Life Frankie Minor could not be reached for comment.
