Letter to the Editor:
Haynes trying to soften Robb's harsh words
Published Oct. 16, 2007
In a recent guest column in The Maneater, "College Dems president manipulated Robb's words," former College Republicans President Nick Haynes questioned College Democrats President Nate Kennedy's integrity because of a letter Kennedy wrote reporting on Rep. Ed Robb's, R-Columbia, draconian views on higher education, as expressed during an Associated Students of the University of Missouri forum.
I also attended the ASUM luncheon, and I can attest to the validity of Kennedy's letter. I, too, heard Robb say, "There is no reason for some of these schools to exist. They are nothing more than glorified community colleges."
Sounds like Haynes is trying to soften some harsh words from a vulnerable
incumbent.
Haynes also must not have read the Columbia Daily Tribune's politics blog in which Robb is steadfast:
"We have too many universities," Robb said. "In an ideal world, we would not have as many universities as we do, but it's impossible to get rid of them."
If I were a public university in Missouri, I would be wary of Robb on a budget committee bulldozer.
