Playboy comes to Northwestern

for Big Ten issue

On a campus probably known more for brains than bodies, Playboy Magazine is auditioning students for its "Girls of the Big Ten" issue.

More than 25 girls from Northwestern University auditioned to be featured in one of Playboy's biannual college issues.

George Georgiou, a Playboy staff photographer, said he did not expect any difficulty finding girls to pose at Northwestern.

"How many students does Northwestern have, like 8,000?" Georgiou said. "I'm sure out of all those girls, we can find a couple pretty ones."

To audition, interested students filled out a form with some general information. Georgieou took test shots of the bikini-clad girls in a hotel suite bedroom.

Sophomore Katie Coombs said she wouldn't think of posing for Playboy, but the magazine might alter NU's reputation.

"It might break our stereotype of being nerdy and unattractive," she said.

Stanford professor's sex survey

explores romantic trends in college

Everybody knows there's no dating at Stanford University.

The story usually goes something like this: Harried undergrads are too busy with school to go on formal dinner or movie dates, so they either have casual one-night stands as time allows, or they quickly move into joined-at-the-hip relationships, where they sleep, eat and study together.

Recent research from sociology professor Paula England, who teaches the popular class Sex and Love in Modern Society, suggests Stanford's lack of dating is not unique. England has given an extensive online sex survey to more than 4,300 students, and she reports that formal dating is dying everywhere. All over the country, the formal date is being pushed out by the new college hookup.

"Hookups have not replaced relationships, but they have altered the pathways into relationships and may have largely replaced casual dating," England said.

University of Florida promotes

safe sex with games on campus

The condom race is back. Blindfolded students competed to correctly put a condom on a plastic penis Wednesday at the University of Florida.

The condom race is one of several games and services available to students as part of Sex on the Lawn, an event put on by Vox: Voices for Planned Parenthood.

Sex on the Lawn is an open environment that provides students with information to help them make healthy choices, Vox President Katelyn Milliman said.

When it comes to condoms, there is technical and social ignorance, Milliman said.

Vox Secretary Pansy Uberoi said participants are blindfolded during the condom race because condoms are often used at night. If people can put a condom on correctly while blindfolded, then they should be able to do so in any real-life situation, she said.
