Students lured to Wheatstone Bistro by a plate of sandwiches and cookies might be there awhile, but Campus Dining Services is trying to speed up the service.

Wheatstone Bistro, which opened in September and is located in Memorial Union, held an open house on Thursday.

Senior Lauren Kilberg said with several of her classes located in Memorial Union, the bistro is a great place to grab something to eat.

"The food is awesome," she said.

Unlike Brady Commons, which offers students several dining options, Memorial Union features a smaller selection consisting of Starbucks Coffee and the Wheatstone Bistro.

But Kilberg said the service needs some work.

"Even when there's not a line, you'll have a 15-minute wait," she said. "But the food is worth the wait."

To up the efficiency of service, Campus Dining Services spokesman Andrew Lough has been working with the Missouri Students Association.

"We have gotten positive feedback," he said. "It's been very constructive."

Lough said one reason for the long lines is the "tight" environment the Bistro is housed in. Since there isn't much room in the bistro itself, Lough said he has been working to provide students with seating while they wait for their meals.

Several to-go options, including salads, yogurt and wrapped sandwiches, are also offered in the hopes of providing students with quick and easy service.

Other items, such as panini sandwiches, will take a little longer, Campus Dining Services Director Julaine Kiehn said.

Kiehn, who has been working on improving the speed of service at the bistro, said a big part of improving the service is to give the staff more practice.

"They can't stand and read a recipe," she said. "This is a training issue."

Kiehn and Lough said comments are always welcome.
