Man robs local taxi driver, passenger at gunpoint

An unidentified man robbed a Columbia taxi driver at gunpoint around 2 a.m. Monday and then ran away, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
The suspect approached the occupied taxi vehicle on foot and displayed what police described as "a large caliber
handgun."
The suspect demanded money from the vehicle's driver, who said he had no money.
The suspect then demanded money from the victim, the news release stated.
Sgt. Ken Hammond said the victim gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money, but the victim did not recall how much. No one was injured during the incident, the release
stated.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, between 140 and 145 pounds and in his mid-20s.
He was last seen running southeast from the intersection of William Street and Wilson Avenue.
The incident is under investigation by the Columbia Police Department's major crimes
unit.
