New blog focuses on Greektown gossip

Published Oct. 9, 2007

Just five months after the Greek Chronicle newspaper folded, the Greek community has a new source of information, although this one is known for its rumor, speculation and assumption.

"It's humorous," Panhellenic Association spokeswoman Julia Hornaday said. "So much of it's based on assumption. It's entertaining."

The Greek Town Gossip blog's first entry ran on Sept. 19, and the blog covers topics varying from Columbia's bar scene to allegations of hazing to the "Frat Pit."

"I guess Greek Life has gotten bored with putting fraternities and sororities on social probation, so now they are just punishing Greektown as a whole," stated the post on "Frat Pit."

The post went on to state, "Hopefully the under-aged were able to find somewhere to tailgate and get blackout at, I can only pray that they didn't have to go through the game sober."

The author of the blog goes by the pseudonym "KissNTell." In a recent post, titled "Wanna Know Who KissNTell Is?" dated Oct. 5, the author stated that he or she is a Greek student and frequents Columbia's bars.

Interfraternity Council spokesman Jeffrey Beeson said the blog could be a positive outlet for the Greek community.

"It's in the early development stages, but I'll be interested to see where it goes," Beeson said. "It's entertainment. It's not meant to be a news source."
