Soccer makes NCAA Tournament
Nov. 13, 2007
The MU women's soccer team played high-level soccer throughout the regular season, and as a result, even more high-level women's soccer is headed to Columbia.
After a disappointing semifinal loss in the Big 12 tournament in San Antonio this past week, MU begins its trek toward a national championship on Friday, as the team opens NCAA Women's Soccer Championship play at home against Southeast Missouri State. The Tigers will play host to the first two rounds of the tournament on Friday and Sunday.
"We are humbled and excited to be selected," coach Bryan Blitz said in a news release. "It's a tribute to our team's sacrifice and hard work."
The winner of the MU and Southeast Missouri State game will advance to face the winner of Creighton and No. 2 seed Southern California.
Missouri will make its third appearance in the NCAA Championship since the soccer programs' inception in 1996. Missouri is 1-2 all-time in tournament play, earning a first round victory against Eastern Illinois in 2003.
