MTV visits University of Pennsylvania,
recruits gamers for concert-style video game
The promotional tour for "Rock Band," a new MTV video game that is similar to the popular "Guitar Hero," stopped at University of Pennsylvania, where about 100 students tried to be the world's next hit rock band on Oct. 31.
The new video game is meant for gamers who "don't necessarily have any experience as a musician," spokesman Ben Korn said.
Players hold mock instruments, pressing buttons on a guitar, or hit certain drumheads that correspond to instructions on the television.
Two "bands" from the 24-city tour will be flown out to New York City to duke it out on a "Total Request Live" Battle of the Bands.
The winning team will be trained by a real band to improve their gaming and performance skills, and will then open at a rock concert for a yet-to-be-announced real band.

Students don black clothes on
'South Carolina Day of Mourning'
On Thursday, hundreds of students wore black as part of the "South Carolina Day of Mourning," an event organized through Facebook.com. The event was created to honor the six University of South Carolina students and the Clemson University student lost in the fire in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.
"I am wearing black today to show my sympathy and compassion toward those that were lost in the fire," sophomore Molly Head said. "Wearing black is a symbol of honor to these victims whose lives were cut so short. I hope others realize how precious life really is."
Support was a key reason to wear black, students said.
"I want to show support for the friends and family that must continue their lives with the loss of a loved one," Head said.
More than 500 students pledged to wear black.

students rally against Burger King
A protest against Burger King's business practices, which was held by the Students for a Democratic Society, turned into a debate with the University of Central Florida Police Department about free speech zones outside the UCF Student Union on Wednesday.
SDS was protesting the conditions of farm workers who provide tomatoes to Burger King. They want Burger King to side with workers who pick tomatoes instead of the farm owners, who do not pay farm workers a decent wage, SDS members said.
The protesters marched through the Union chanting:
"End the slavery, spank the King."
Protesters handed out fliers to people before settling in front of the Burger King inside the Union.
UCF police officers arrived soon after and told the SDS members that they were not allowed to protest within the Union.
