Columbia man arrested after stabbing at party

Nov. 6, 2007

Police arrested a Columbia man on suspicion of first-degree assault and armed criminal action after a man was stabbed at a party Sunday night.

The victim's injuries were not life threatening, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department. The release stated that a private vehicle took the victim to the hospital.

Columbia Police Department Chief Randy Boehm said approximately 15 to 20 subjects were involved in a disturbance when officers responded to a residence on the 1700 block of Nelwood Drive.

"A female subject stated that an individual had been stabbed and was taken to the hospital," Boehm said. "She gave a description of the suspect and stated that he lived next door."

Boehm said the woman said the suspect, Jason Guevara, had been at another residence drinking "for a good part of the day." The woman told police that Guevara had become intoxicated and began to argue with people.

Boehm said the police report contained no information as to why the man was involved in arguments.

"It appears that it was mostly related to the fact that he was intoxicated," Boehm said.

Guevara was arrested at or near his residence, which was next door to the residence where the incident took place.

Boehm said the investigative unit is looking into the incident.
