Soccer heads to Big 12
Nov. 6, 2007
One season ago, the MU soccer team finished the year with a 2-8 conference record and failed to qualify for the Big 12 Soccer Championship Tournament.
What a difference a year makes. The Tigers (12-6, 6-4 Big 12) enter this week's Big 12 Soccer Championship Tournament in San Antonio ranked No. 16 in the country and seeded fourth in the tournament. The Tigers reached six conference wins in the regular season for the first time since 1999.
Missouri faces fifth-seeded Texas Tech, a team the Tigers defeated on the road, 2-0, in early October, on Wednesday. The winner of that game faces the winner of top-seeded Texas A&M and eighth-seeded Iowa State on Friday evening.
Missouri finished 3-4 against the tournament's qualifiers, including overtime losses to Oklahoma State, Texas and Iowa State. Only Kansas defeated Missouri in regulation during conference play, despite the Tigers out-shooting the Jayhawks, 21-12.
The championship game will be held Sunday afternoon and broadcast on tape delay next Monday by Fox Sports Net Midwest.
