The UM system Board of Curators is expected to announce a new UM system president Thursday, bringing to an end a search that started in December 2006 when former UM system President Elson Floyd announced his intention to resign.
The Board of Curators is the governing board for all four campuses in the UM system.
The board has interviewed candidates in closed meetings in St. Louis and Columbia. The board announced in July that its first choice had turned the job down. The board started the search over and, in November, sent just one candidate to the Presidential Search Advisory Committee, committee chairman Frank Schmidt said in a previous Maneater report.
The committee is a group of students, faculty and alumni who interview finalists and provide feedback to the Board of Curators.
According to a UM system news release, the new president would be hired during a closed meeting scheduled for 11 a.m. on the MU campus. Then the board would announce the new president at 1 p.m. in the Reynolds Alumni Center.
The release states that the announcement would be streamed live at umsystem.edu/live. Following the announcement, the university is holding a public reception in the Reynolds Alumni Center.
The person hired for the position will be the system's 22nd president.
