An automobile accident left two MU students injured after their vehicle collided with another driven by a Columbia resident, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

The accident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. Monday in the 2600 block of S. Providence Road near Campus View Apartments.

A vehicle driven by Christopher Jais, 33, was crossing Providence Road traveling east when it was hit by a vehicle driven by Nikunj Patel, 21.

Patel is listed as a freshman on MU's Web site.

Rudy Galarza, 18, was a passenger in Patel's vehicle.

He is listed as a freshman in the College of Arts and Science on MU's Web site.

Police issued a citation to Jais for failing to yield, according to the news release.

All three were transported to a local hospital, but none of the injuries sustained in the accident were life threatening, according to the news release.

Galarza was at University Hospital and listed in good condition at approximately 1:30 a.m., but Patel and Jais were not checked in at that time.

Because hospital policy prohibits releasing patient information beyond a one-word condition report, it is unclear whether they were admitted.

All of the vehicles' occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, and both vehicles were towed from the scene of the accident, according to the news release.

Columbia police Sgt. Barb Buck said she could not comment further on the accident because the accident report was not available at press time.
