They're normally on the radio, but come May, they'll be on the streets.

No, these local broadcast personalities aren't losing their jobs.

They've been named honorary co-chairmen of this year's Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week.

Fred Parry and Simon Rose of KFRU/1400 AM radio will lead the events, which take place May 12-19.

The annual event is designed to promote non-vehicular transportation and active lifestyles for citizens throughout Columbia.

Parry and Rose host "The Morning Meeting" show on KFRU.

"This week brings together the entire community behind such a fun and active program," Rose stated in a city news release. "Evidence of this comes when you consider that I rarely agree with my co-chair for the week. Yet when it comes to recognizing what this event does for the community, the two of us are on the same page. Heck, he may even leave the SUV at home and bike to work a few mornings that week with me."

The city of Columbia and PedNet, a coalition of citizens that works for alternative transportation and trails throughout the city, will sponsor the week's events.

This year marks the sixth annual Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week.

Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week includes many activities to increase physical activity and show how citizens can get around the city without a car.

According to PedNet's Web site, events will include a group ride and walk on the MKT Nature/Fitness Trail, a scavenger hunt, a roller skating party and free breakfast at various locations for those who arrive using alternative transportation.

Unconfirmed events include a bicycle safety rodeo and commuting workshop.

Parry stated in the release that the week's events are a good way to show how both families and the community can come together to make a difference.

"Riding our bikes is a great activity for my family, and my two sons are enthusiastic participants in the Walking School Bus program at Grant Elementary," he stated in the release. "I'm hoping that a lot of families will choose to participate in this year's events."
