Baseball takes two in Dallas

The MU baseball team will return to Taylor Stadium Wednesday with a seven-game winning streak intact after going 2-0 this weekend in Dallas and improving its season record to 13-5. The Tigers combined for 25 runs on the day, winning the first game against Texas State 14-4 and taking the second game against Dallas Baptist, 11-7.

Freshman catcher Trevor Coleman collected three RBIs in the eighth inning when he connected for his first collegiate home run. Junior second baseman Brock Bond didn't record any hits but contributed three RBIs by recording a sacrifice fly, a ground out and getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Sophomore third baseman Kyle Mach picked up four hits for a new career high, going 4-for-5.

Sophomore pitcher Aaron Crow took the mound for the first game and recorded the win, which moved him to 3-0 on the season. Crow pitched 6.2 innings and gave up four earned runs. Sophomore pitchers Scooter Hicks and Brant Combs combined for 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

The Tigers trailed early in the second game against Dallas Baptist, but three unearned runs on two Dallas Baptist errors in the fourth inning were enough to put the Tigers ahead. Bond went 3-for-3 and sophomore left-fielder Ryan Lollis was 1-for-3. Each also recorded RBI singles to push the Tiger offense past the Patriots. Senior infielder John McKee recorded his third home run of the season, added two runs to the scoreboard for the Tigers in the eighth inning and finished the night with three RBIs.

Sophomore pitcher Rick Zagone started the game for the Tigers but only pitched two innings, giving up five earned runs. Freshman Greg Folgia came in relief to get the win, pitching three innings and giving up one earned run. Fellow freshman Kyle Gibson recorded the save, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up an earned run.
