Latino workers accuse Harvard of racist firings

Four Latino workers at Harvard University alleged last fall that they were being fired because of their ethnicity. At a meeting Thursday night, the four said discrimination in the workplace has not subsided, even though they were not fired.

Students and workers pledged to continue their work to end the Harvard University administration's "retaliation against Latino workers." They said a committee formed by Harvard to investigate the discrimination has not yielded results.

Three university animal technical workers cited numerous incidents they considered to be racist acts including an instance when a Latino cage-worker with high blood pressure and a phobia of both snakes and reptiles was sent to work with those animals.

Last October, four workers were told they would lose their jobs because machines could do their jobs. But after the employees alleged discrimination, claiming they were fired because they were Latino, students rallied around them, and the university rescinded the layoffs in November. Since then, Harvard has not threatened to fire any more workers.

Washington State posts video résumé on YouTube

If the thought of post-college job-hunting sends you into a panic attack, Time Magazine, YouTube.com and Washington State University student Benjamin Hampton have made it a bit easier.

When Hampton, 23, decided to make a video résumé to post on YouTube, interest and controversy streamed in from a multitude of sources.

The communication major and his brother shot a five minute, 50 second video résumé and then posted it on YouTube in October. The video begins with a sharply-dressed Hampton introducing himself while standing in the entrance of an upscale home. The video continues with Hampton playing a short song on a piano, information about his job experiences, as well as his summer internship, all accompanied with a background song by Coldplay.

Car smashes into Bowling Green sorority house

Members of Pi Beta Phi sorority at Bowling Green State University were shocked to find a new lawn ornament at their house late Saturday afternoon.

A car traveling on East Wooster Street lost control at approximately 3:15 p.m. and slammed into the side of the sorority house, scraping the side wall and damaging a fire hydrant.

No one inside the house was injured, but the driver, Brandon Ruhlen, was taken to the Wood County Hospital emergency room where he was treated and released, according to hospital officials.

Students in the house at the time said they were startled by a sudden, violent jolt but had no idea a car had hit their house.

"The whole house shook, and I ran out to ask my roommate what happened," sophomore Kasie Kimball said. "She said maybe someone fell out of their bed, but unless they weighed, like, a thousand pounds, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a person.
