Editorial:

Don't let the Nazis win, embrace peace

Published March 6, 2007

It seems the Nazis are coming, and there's no one stopping them. But that's the great part about our system: Even though we don't believe in the Nazi's message, we still can't stop them for expressing it — not the other way around. The only thing that will stop the Nazis is the moral depravity of their empty message.

So the question becomes: What is the best way to show the Nazis their message has no audience in Columbia?

Surely the best way to shut down the National Socialist Movement's parading message is to not show up — to simply leave the streets a ghost town. That way, their message doesn't only fall on deaf ears, but no ears at all.

But realistically, this probably won't happen. There will probably be those who go to try to convert the Nazis, those who go to yell at the Nazis and those who just feel compelled to attend the spectacle.

If you can, stay away from the march. To those who feel they must go, remember to react non-violently. Violence seems to be the only end left for the Nazis, the only thing they feel would somehow legitimize their message. And violence, of course, will solve nothing.

When the Nazis come marching down the street, turn the other cheek. It's the only way to show them their hate has no place in our community.
