Former MU student dead

A former MU student, Christopher Sloan, 22, of Lee's Summit, Mo., was killed in a shooting at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in Kansas City, Kan., according to a news release from the Kansas City, Kan. Police Department.
According to the release, Sloan and Blake Overton, 29, of Leawood, Kan., were shot inside a black BMW. Sloan was pronounced dead on the scene.
As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, Overton was in critical condition at an area hospital.
According to the release, the shooting occurred in the area of 649 S. 71st Terrace, which is on the west side of the city.
The MU Registrar's Office stated that Sloan was still enrolled at MU, but he did not take any classes this semester. He is registered as a pre-journalism major.
MU sophomore Jacob Long, president of Sigma Nu fraternity, said Sloan is an alumni member of the chapter.
Sloan was enrolled at Avila University in Kansas City, Mo., according to Avila spokesman Jeremy Lillig.
According to the release, the homicide investigation is ongoing. Kansas City, Kan., police are not releasing any further information at press time.
