Greek Week winners celebrate Sunday

After participating fraternity and sorority chapters raised more than $110,000 for charity, and donated more than 3,300 units of blood and more than 4,000 pounds of canned goods, the winners of Greek Week 2007 were announced on Sunday.
Fraternity and sorority members waited anxiously on the steps of Jesse Hall as Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Beta Theta Pi fraternity were announced as the overall winners having also won the Blood and Service categories.
"It was a long week," Alpha Delta Pi member Maria Loida said. "It was awesome. Everybody came together and worked really hard."
Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Phi Kappa Theta fraternity and Beta Sigma Psi fraternity took second place. Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity finished third.
Greek Week Tri-director Ashley Parsonage said commitment was the key to winning.
"The people that come in first are the people that are very dedicated and driven," she said.
Parsonage said the entirety of Greek Week could be looked at in a positive light.
"I feel the whole year and the planning has been a huge success," she said.
Phi Mu sorority, Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity won the Royalty event. Tri-director Adam White said it takes "model students with model involvement" to win Royalty.
Sigma Chi fraternity member Patrick Witzofsky said he was particularly excited because it is his chapter's first year back on campus and therefore had to compete against many fraternities with more members. Sigma Chi was suspended from campus four years ago after being found guilty of hazing violations.
"It's just really exciting to be a part of it," he said.
Delta Tau Delta fraternity member Sam Karson said announcements are a great way to wrap up Greek Week.
"It's just really fun," he said. "A chance to celebrate what you've done all of Greek Week."
But he wasn't too optimistic about his own chapter before the results.
"I don't think we performed as well as we could have," he said. "But I'm still happy."
Kappa Alpha Theta, Phi Kappa Theta and Beta Sigma Psi took home first place in the games category. A Best Sportsmanship award was added to this year's game category. Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Kappa Sigma fraternity and Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity won the award.
Tri-director Jennifer Moore said the grouping that won the sportsmanship award was the best to work with.
"They were always nice to the referees and to us," Moore said.
Kappa Alpha Theta, Phi Kappa Theta and Beta Sigma Psi also won the Fling category. Fling also included awards for best director, best intro video, best choreography, best lead male and female actors and best male and female vocals. Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity took home a Fling award for best In Between Act with "Breakfast at Stacy's Mom's."
In the programming category, Kappa Delta sorority, Kappa Alpha Order fraternity and Delta Sigma Phi fraternity came in first place.
