Blood drive collects less than past years
April 27, 2007
The Greek Week Blood Drive's deferral day, which took place last week, produced more than 250 units and brought the total units collected to 3,300.
Last year, the Greek Week blood drive brought in 3,400.
Blood Committee Chairwoman Erin Beagen said she didn't know why this year's total was lower.
Tim Decker, Blood Committee chairman of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, said he thought there were several reasons the total wasn't as high as last year.
"We didn't get as many people to give," Decker said. "I don't even know if we reached our goal for the American Red Cross."
Decker said people might not have been as prepared as in years past.
"People had a hard time organizing everything," he said.
Neither Beagen nor Decker said trips out of the country for spring break factored into the lower totals.
"Spring break happens every year," Decker said. "I don't think it was a factor at all."
