MU meets Academic Progress Rates
Although the NCAA reprimanded 99 schools for not meeting desired graduation rates, Missouri was not among them. MU met the Academic Progress Rates, or APR, in all 20 sports, leading the Big 12 in nine of those.
Both men's and women's golf and cross country had perfect scores of 1000 in the NCAA's formula. Fourteen sports ranked in the top three in the Big 12, including men's basketball. MU teams had to meet a threshold of at least 925, or they would have faced a potential loss of scholarships. The NCAA does not factor in players leaving early to play professionally in their rankings.
Baseball rained out
The springtime storms that have hit the Midwest all week caused Wednesday night's baseball game between the Tigers and Missouri State at Taylor Field to be cancelled. According to MU's Athletics Department's Web site, there is no plan to reschedule the game. Missouri has had four of its last five midweek home games cancelled due to rain. The Tigers travel to Austin this weekend to play the Texas Longhorns in a battle between the top two teams in the conference. The Longhorns lead MU by five games in the standings with nine conference games remaining.
All-Academic track
The Missouri men's and women's cross country teams were named 2006 All-Academic teams by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Individually, freshman Dan Hedgecock and seniors Amanda Bales and Tim Ross were named Academic All-Americans.
All-Academic winners finished in the top 15 or top 10 percent, at the NCAA regional championship, and have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
According to a press release, in order to earn All-Academic Team honors, the MU team had to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and had to compete in the NCAA regional meet.
