MU quarterback named player-to-watch in 2007

Missouri football fans won't be the only ones watching junior quarterback Chase Daniel during the 2007 season. The record-breaking quarterback has been added to the Maxwell Football Club Watch List based on his performance in the 2006 season.

The Maxwell Football Club, which sponsors the Maxwell Awards, is named for Robert Maxwell. Maxwell played college football for both the University of Chicago and Swarthmore College before becoming a sports journalist. Maxwell died in a car accident in 1922. The Maxwell Football Club was established in his memory in 1937.

Daniel earned his Maxwell listing after leading the Tigers to eight regular season wins during 2006. He broke the single-season record for passing yards by more than 1,000 yards. As the Tigers enter the 2007 season, Daniel has the best quarterback rating in career history.

Daniel is one of 17 quarterbacks and 65 players added to the list. The Maxwell Football Club's selection committee compiled the watch list.

In 2006, former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn won the 70th annual Maxwell Award. Quinn was the first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns during the 2007 NFL draft.

The Maxwell Club will announce semifinalists for the Maxwell Award in early November and will announce its three finalists on Nov. 26. The winner of the 2007 award will be announced during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 6.
