MU graduate student Margaret "Meggie" Malm was killed Thursday in a traffic accident, according to a report in The Des Moines Register. She was 22 years old.

Having earned her bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Ms. Malm was enrolled in the Crosby MBA Program.

Ms. Malm was an MU soccer player throughout her undergraduate career. A resident of Des Moines, she also played soccer at Theodore Roosevelt High School for four years. As a senior at MU, Ms. Malm was one of two players to start in all of the 2007 season's 19 games. She also represented MU on the All-Big 12 Conference Academic first team for three consecutive seasons.

According to the release, Ms. Malm played primarily as a defender in 74 games, of which she was part of the starting lineup in 63. She scored four points in her MU career.

"This is a tremendous loss to the Missouri soccer family," coach Bryan Blitz stated in a news release. "Meggie was the ultimate teammate who embodied everything good about life through her character, spirit and heart. Her family was such a big part of the Mizzou family and our thoughts and prayers go out to them."

Ms. Malm was also a member of the Mystical Seven honor society.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dunn's Funeral Home, 2121 Grand Ave., in Des Moines. Ms. Malm's family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3223 University Ave., in Des Moines.
