Cyclist collides with moving car

Sunlight shining through a car window was the cause of an accident at the intersection of Rollins Street and Virginia Avenue at 6:31 p.m. on Sept. 26, MU Police Department Capt. Brian Weimer said.

A car traveling westbound on Rollins Street struck a cyclist traveling eastbound on Rollins Street as the car's driver attempted to complete a turn onto Virginia Avenue.

The police report stated that the passenger yelled, "Look out for the bike," but, at that point, it was too late, Weimer said.

"The bike struck the car, and the passenger rolled off of the hood," Weimer said.

The cyclist hit the front right side of the car. Weimer said the car sustained no damage and the bicycle had a bent front tire.

No passengers in the car were injured, and the bicyclist sustained a scratch on the left elbow. The cyclist refused medical attention and was driven away from the scene by an unidentified car.
