Columbia continues nearing the future.
The Sponsor's Council voted unanimously to recommend the "Imagine Columbia's Future" Visioning Committee's final report for adoption by the City Council.
The report incorporated more than 1,000 Columbia and Boone County citizens to aid the long process of creating the 105-page document.
"It has been quite the process," Mayor Darwin Hindman said. "The idea of this visioning process is going to be extremely important to every citizen of Columbia."
Committee co-chairwoman Dianne Drainer and co-chairman Jeffrey Williams presented their report to the Sponsor's Council and gave insight to the process of creating the document. Drainer and Williams each recommended that the City Council adopt the report as it is, to honor the citizens that contributed their efforts.
"I ask the City Council to accept the document in its entirety and without change," Drainer said.
Williams said the high citizen involvement in the project was key to including everyone's thoughts and ideas.
"This provides a gauge of citizen interest," he said.
The Columbia Special Business District announced it is taking several immediate steps that address the goals for downtown outlined by the Visioning Committee.
"We are pleased to see so much community support for so many of our priority issues," SBD director Carrie Gartner said.
The Sponsor's Council did not specify a date at which the City Council will hear the report.
