Libertarian state Senate hopeful Chris Dwyer has worn just about every hat in the box - except politics. Dwyer brings a wealth of experience from many aspects of life to his campaign. Growing up in Florissant, he started out managing a service station just out of high school.
Shortly afterward, Dwyer joined the U.S. Air Force, working with water purification and pest control.
"I used the Air Force as a school," he said. "I have a general idea of how government operates just by being in the military."
A train hit Dwyer during his time in the service, which has left him in what he calls a constant pain. He doesn't, however, let it adversely affect his outlook.
"One of my philosophies is that when someone asks, 'How are you doing?' I always say, 'Good, could always be worse,'" Dwyer said.
He maintains three part-time jobs at three different McDonald's, and is also a landlord, a farmer, a business owner and a stay-at-home dad, taking care of two boys, seven-year-old Talor and six-year-old Bryan. He has no previous political experience but said he can look at an issue from several different directions.
"I believe in a smaller government," Dwyer said. "I think that they're meant to do what the regular family has to do, which is live within a budget. Times are tough. As we have to adjust our budget, they should adjust their budget, as well. If you're having hard times, you should be trying to look for ways to save the taxpayer money."
