After scheduling problems kept a group of neo-Nazis from marching in Columbia, the group got a permit to march on Nov. 8 in Jefferson City.

Members of the National Socialist Movement group will hold a mid-Missouri march after obtaining a permit from the Jefferson City Police Department.

The group applied for a permit from the Columbia Police Department but the department denied the permit because of a football game scheduled to occur on the same day, which police said would overburden police resources.

Jefferson City police cannot deny the group rights to obtain a permit because "anyone can apply for it", Jefferson City Capt. Doug Shoemaker said.

He also said the police department would be on sight, not to protect the members of the march, but to maintain order during the march.

Shoemaker said the Jefferson City Police Department is developing tactical situations to be best prepared for anything during the march.

Jefferson City police had extensive discussions with CPD about being prepared for the march as well as anything that could occur before, during or after the march.
