Denise Neely's run for secretary of state is a family affair.

Neely, of Cedar Hill, said her position as a mother and a grandmother influenced her position to run. She specifically has her family's safety in mind and holds the belief that state government in Missouri needs to hold people accountable and make sure they adhere to the law.

In a statement on the Constitution Party's Web site, Neely said her concern stems from the notion that Missouri government employees decide "which laws they will obey and setting aside laws they do not care for."

If elected, Neely said she would ensure election laws are more strictly enforced.

"Our election laws should be followed but were broken last presidential election when the city of St. Louis was allowed to keep polling places open longer than the law allowed," she said in the statement. "I remember thinking, 'That is not right.'"
