Libertarian wants more choice on ballots

Wes Upchurch, the 21-year-old Libertarian candidate for secretary of state, said his candidacy is about "the message of more choice on the ballots."
Among his proposed changes to Missouri elections, Upchurch said he would like to see officials elected by proportional representation. For example, he said, if a party got 5 percent of the statewide vote, it would receive 5 percent of the seats in the Missouri General Assembly.
"The biggest benefit of having proportional representation is that all voters, even the minority, will have their voice heard," Upchurch said.
If elected, Upchurch said he would also add a "None of the Above" or "No Confidence" vote to the Missouri ballot.
"It's time people stop voting for the lesser of two evils," he said.
Upchurch said a college or work-issued photo ID should be sufficient to vote, and the state should supply financial aid to those who cannot afford identification.
