A Columbia man interrupted a robbery at his Vanderveen subdivision home as the robbers were carrying electronics and a rifle from the house.
The Columbia Police Department responded to a burglary call at about 8 p.m. Friday on the 100 block of Elk Drive.
According to a CPD news release, the victim, a 40 year-old male, was returning home when he found two males exiting the rear of his residence. One of the suspects was carrying the victim's assault rifle out of the residence. The victim chased the suspects, but he quickly lost sight of them and returned to his home.
The release stated that the victim then found that the suspects had piled various electronics and personal items behind some trees in the backyard, and he found the assault rifle later that evening in the area surrounding his home.
While police were responding to the area of the incident, an officer came in contact with a male subject walking near the entrance to the Bear Creek Nature Area. When the officer tried to make contact with the man, he took off running. After a short foot chase, the suspect was captured and identified as Cory A. Foster, who was later identified by the victim as one of the suspects in the burglary, the release stated.
Foster was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary and resisting arrest, and he is currently being held in the Boone County Jail.
