Jezek appointed MSA chief of staff

Freshman Chanel Jezek will serve as chief of staff for Missouri Students Association President Jim Kelley and Vice President Chelsea Johnson.

Jezek was appointed after the original appointee, senior Steve Scott, withdrew his name from consideration for the position before being confirmed by the MSA Senate three weeks ago.

Jezek received confirmation by both the Senate Operations Committee and the full Senate last week.

This week, Jezek will begin her term as chief of staff by organizing Kelley’s office and schedule.

“I want to get his schedule running smoothly,” she said. “He’s on such a fast-paced schedule.”

Jezek said she will handle the day-to-day operations of the office as well.

Jezek will have access to Kelley’s schedule and e-mail account, and Kelley hopes to issue her a key to his office, he said.

“I need someone who can help keep me on track, and I think she can do that,” Kelley said.

Jezek said she thinks the position will offer her opportunities she didn’t have before.

“I found out about the job though Chelsea, through our sorority, and I thought it’d be a pretty fun job,” Jezek said. “It’s a good job for networking and I’ll get to meet a lot of good people.”

Jezek and Johnson are both members of the Delta Gamma sorority.

In addition to managing Kelley’s office and schedule, Jezek will coordinate the chancellor’s standing committees, Kelley said.

Johnson said Jezek will work on recruitment, retention and recording for the committees.

Jezek, who has not been involved with MSA before, said she will spend time learning about the committees before she takes an active role in running them.

“I’m going to sit down and talk to a person in each committee and get an idea of what their goals are and what they want to accomplish,” she said.

Jezek said she was looking forward to becoming more involved in MSA.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know what MSA does and all the different committees involved,” she said. “It’s cool to get to know the government and what we’re doing for our school.”
