College baseball is back in action with the Tigers starting their season this past weekend with three straight wins at the Stetson Tournament in DeLand, Fla.

The Tigers traveled to Orlando to face a true road game at Central Florida and lost to the Knights 10-9. The two teams only had time to fit in seven innings Monday against Central Florida because of travel time constraints, and it was in the bottom of the seventh that UCF scored five runs to come back and beat the Tigers.

Freshman pitcher Kelly Fick made his Tiger debut giving up five runs on seven hits.

The Tigers started the tournament Friday when they faced Connecticut, where sophomore pitcher Aaron Crow picked up his first win of the season, with the Tigers beating the Huskies 7-1. Crow maneuvered the Tigers through 5 innings, allowing one run on six hits, and struck out seven batters.

Junior Rick Zagone started Saturday’s game but lasted only four innings and junior Ryan Gargano was awarded the win as the Tigers beat Michigan State, 14-9.

Senior outfielder Jacob Priday contributed to the Tigers offensive onslaught, driving in three runs and scoring three times. The Tigers showed patience at the plate drawing 10 walks and had six batters hit by pitches.

MU’s win streak continued into Sunday when the Tigers beat host Stetson 9-5, to record the 2,000th win in the program’s history. Sophomore pitcher Kyle Gibson struck out 10 batters and earned the win. Priday hit his first home run of the season.
