Eight arrests in Hickman disturbance
Feb. 29, 2008
Faculty and police responded to a fight that broke out on the Hickman High School campus Feb. 26 at about 11:45 a.m., according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
The fight included students from Frederick Douglass High School as well as adults who did not attend either school.
Three adults and four juveniles were arrested for disturbing the peace. An additional juvenile was arrested for second-degree assault for assaulting a school administrator.
“Apparently this is a dispute that started a week ago,” CPD Capt. Zim Schwartze said.
Schwartze said the fight stemmed from a nonviolent altercation between one suspect and the relative of another suspect. The fight picked up a week later when a few of the suspects were crossing the Hickman campus, she said.
Anthony Robinson and Donald Coleman, both 18, John Wis, 17, and the five juveniles were arrested.
Hickman administrators and responding police officers broke up the fight. The news release credited the quick response of administrators and police officers for no injuries being reported. The news release stated police used a taser on an adult not affiliated with the school to gain compliance.
