The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources is celebrating one of MU's longstanding traditions this week.

CAFNR will bring together alumni, retirees, current students, faculty and staff from the school to attend this year's Ag Day BBQ, the 45th annual barbecue sponsored by MU, CAFNR Vice Chancellor and Dean Thomas Payne said.

Serving will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Brewer Fieldhouse in the Student Recreation Complex, and the dean will speak around noon, James Hundle, Payne's assistant, said.

This year, the barbecue will focus on the "Power of Partnership" in various departments within the university.

During his speech, Payne will give a presentation about the state of the college and recognize strong partnerships with CAFNR across campus, Hundle said. He said more details about the partnerships would not be released until the barbecue on Wednesday.

CAFNR's Hotel and Restaurant Management Program and the Mizzou BBQ Team will provide all of the barbecue and side dishes for the event.

Payne expressed his excitement for Wednesday.

"It's the 45th anniversary of the event — bringing alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends together to learn and connect," Payne said. "It's a wonderful time to share how CAFNR's teaching, research and Extension programs support our state's number one industry: Agriculture and Natural Resources."

In addition to celebrating CAFNR's successes, the event will serve as a good opportunity for students to network with alumni and professionals in the field, Hundle said.

He said CAFNR students should attend the barbecue "to meet alumni and network with individuals who will be there from all facets of the agriculture industry and the university."

Payne also said the event would be a networking opportunity for CAFNR students.

"It's an outstanding opportunity for our students to connect with each other, faculty, alumni and friends to see the broad scope of what our college does to educate them and help all Missourians," Payne said.

Tickets are $12 each and can be bought in advance or at the door. Tickets can be purchased by e-mailing agdaybbq@missouri.edu.
