Triangle Coalition, a network organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, is trying to create an all-inclusive environment one event at a time.

"We serve as a diverse student organization where people can come together and be part of the community," Triangle Coalition President Joshua Barton said.

In April, the group will sponsor its fifth annual professional drag show in Jesse Hall.

"It's a really good time," Barton said. "A lot of people aren't really exposed to that type of entertainment and that aspect of the LGBT community, so it's good for people to come out. "

Triangle Coalition will also organize an amateur drag competition in March. The competition allows students, faculty and staff to show off their talent, Barton said.

Triangle Coalition and the Legion of Black Collegians hope to co-sponsor a forum about homosexuality in the black community, Barton said.

Triangle Coalition is also involved in LGBT programming across the Midwest. Later this month, several members of Triangle Coalition will attend the Midwest Bisexual Lesbian Gay Transgender Ally College Conference at the University of Illinois, Barton said.

Barton said the group sponsors social events, such as dinners at Shakespeare's or the Heidelberg and "The L Word" marathons, every other week.

The events fit with Triangle Coalitions' ultimate goal of creating a welcoming environment at MU, Barton said.

"I feel it is very important to have a visible and vocal and active queer organization to be a support network for students," he said. "We always have an overarching goal of creating a safe place where students can come and be themselves."
