Electronic ballots fail some students

March 19, 2008

An unknown number of students are unable to electronically vote in the MSA Senate elections, which end at 6 p.m.

Division of Information Technology Director Terry Robb said developers have confirmed there is a problem for some students and are working to identify why the students are receiving a message that says they are "not eligible to vote in any active election" when the students attempt to sign into vote.missouri.edu.

Robb said remedying the problem is "complicated" and developers likely will not solve it before the election concludes this evening.

He said developers do not yet know how many students are unable to sign in.

"If it's affecting one, you can be sure it's affecting others," he said.

The MSA Board of Elections Commissioners has set up booths for students experiencing technical difficulties to vote. Students could cast paper ballots today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

BEC Chairman Geoffrey Grammer said the BEC will tally the paper ballots, but did not know when they tallying will be complete. Students who voted before 9:22 p.m. Monday, the first day of elections, are asked to re-cast their online ballots, according to an e-mail sent to those voters Tuesday night.

The BEC can be reached at bec@missouri.edu
