MU’s computer network shut down Tuesday evening, rendering missouri.edu and TigerNet wireless Internet inaccessible for almost two hours. MU spokesman Christian Basi said the entire MU network went offline at about 9 p.m., and that the outage appeared to be hardware-related. Access was restored by 10:50 p.m. “It does appear right now that there is no evidence that there was any tampering or virus,” Basi said before access was restored. He said the Division of Information Technology had contacted an expert to diagnose the problem, and that the expert was on campus as of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. Basi said similar network-wide outages have occurred in the past. “It’s rare, but it does happen,” he said.
