Three homes robbed in two nights
April 18, 2008
Police have made no developments tracking a trio of home invasions through northern Columbia over the course of two days, Columbia Police Department Capt. Brad Nelson said.
Between 8:50 p.m. Tuesday and 10:09 p.m. Wednesday, three Columbia homes, all north of Interstate 70, were robbed at gunpoint, one on Tuesday night and two on Wednesday night, he said.
CPD is searching for three suspects connected to both Wednesday robberies and two different suspects involved in the Tuesday robbery, Nelson said.
Despite being within a day of each other, Nelson said the suspects involved in the Tuesday crime are different from the ones from Wednesday.
“There are some similarities, but as of now, we think these two are not connected,” Nelson said.
At 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, two people armed with handguns, one a 5-foot-11-inch male and the other a 6-foot-1-inch male, forced entry into a home on the 1200 block of Haven Road, according to a CPD news release.
They demanded money from three females, ages 7, 11 and 28, as they were arriving home.
Police reported the suspects left with an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries were reported.
On Wednesday, three suspects also forced their way into a residence on RIA Street, according to a CPD new release.
The release stated the first suspect is described as a 6-foot-2-inch male, the second is a 6-foot male and the third was a 5-foot-10-inch male.
One suspect was armed with a handgun, and another was armed with a baseball bat, according to a news release.
The suspects demanded money and narcotics from two men inside the home, ages 45 and 32.
About 20 minutes later, a 22-year-old man reported he had been robbed by three men who fit the same description as the suspects of the earlier Wednesday invasion after they forced their way into a home on Whitegate Drive, according to a different CPD news release.
Nelson said police are confident the same three men are responsible for the two Wednesday invasions.
No injuries were reported in either release.
Nelson said this number of home invasions in such a short amount of time is relatively common.
“It’s unusual for Columbia,” Nelson said. “But it is usual if you have one home invasion, you often have spurts of them.”
Nelson said without specifically addressing these three cases, past home invasions have often been drug-related.
Only the release about the RIA Drive invasion stated narcotics were involved with the incident.
