Fine Arts Bldg. evacuated

MU police evacuated several rooms around 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the Fine Arts Building. MU Police Department Capt. Scott Richardson said MUPD received a call around 3 p.m. about a suspicious package located near the building. He said police sent bomb-detecting dogs through the building, and a bomb technician was sent in to open the package.
“There was no detection of bomb-making material,” he said.
He said the gift-wrapped package was a fine arts prop accidentally left outside. The evacuated rooms were those with windows surrounding the courtyard on the east side of the building, he said. Richardson said the building was evacuated for about 30 minutes. The building was opened again at 3:45 p.m.
