The Columbia Police Department arrested two men on federal drug charges at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after conducting a search of their home, police said.

Arthur L. Rainey Jr., 23, and Thomas C. Stevens, 22, were arrested at their Columbia residence after Columbia police found about 674 grams of powder cocaine, 187 grams of crack cocaine, 1800 tablets of ecstasy and 40 grams of marijuana, according to a CPD news release.

“This is very substantial,” CPD Lt. Scott Young said about the amount of drugs discovered during the search. Young said 10 grams of crack cocaine was enough for first-degree trafficking charges. The amount of crack cocaine found was almost 19 times that.

The news release also stated police found a digital scale, a drug ledger and $33,779 in cash as a result of a search warrant.

Officers discovered evidence of drugs after responding to a residential burglar alarm at the residence, located at the 2600 block of Rose Drive, where officers determined that it was a false alarm, according the news release.

In addition, firearms were also discovered during the search, including three handguns, a rifle and a shotgun.

These arrests come just under a month after a yearlong undercover investigation resulted in the indictments of 27 people and 10 arrests. Young said there appears to be no connection between that investigation and the arrests made on Wednesday.

“As far as I know, it’s unrelated,” Young said.

Rainey and Stevens have no other drug-related convictions according to Missouri court documents.
