The MU Police Department is seeking help to resolve two incidents of stolen copper building materials, according to a news release.

According to the release, about $20,000 worth of copper building materials was stolen from a Discovery Ridge construction site near South Lenoir Street between 3 p.m. March 26 and 8 a.m. March 27, and about $19,000 in copper building supplies was stolen between 6 and 11 p.m. April 1 from the construction site near the School of Journalism by the Eighth Street circle.

The incidents might or might not be related, the news release stated.

MUPD Capt. Brian Weimer said officers were dispatched to the Discovery Ridge site around 7:44 a.m. March 27 and to the site near the Eighth Street circle around 8:15 a.m. April 2.

The department has investigated similar cases in the past.

“With the price of metals, we’ve seen thefts of copper and other metal supplies a few times,” Weimer said.

Anyone with information about either incident is encouraged to contact Det. Sam Easley at (573) 884-3721 or Crime Stoppers at (573) 875-8477.
