Crow named pitcher of the week
For the second time in three weeks, MU junior pitcher Aaron Crow has been named the Big 12’s best pitcher of the week, as voted on by conference officials.
Friday, Crow pitched a complete game shutout against Oklahoma State, extending his no run streak to 42 2/3 consecutive innings. Crow struck out seven batters and walked none.
Crow has not allowed a run in conference play this season and has only given up four runs in 52 innings pitched all season, giving him a 0.69 ERA to go with his 7-0 record.
Crow has not allowed a run since the Feb. 29 win over California.
Crow leads the conference in wins, ERA, strikeouts (67) and complete game shutouts (three).
Men’s basketball recruit shows promise
Men’s basketball signee Miguel Paul was named the best player in Polk County, Fla., as voted on by the sports staff of the Lakeland Ledger.
Paul led Kathleen High School to the state championship game his junior and senior years. The shooting guard is expected to have a direct impact in his freshman year at MU backing up rising junior Keon Lawrence.
Softball suffers weekend losses
In Norman, Okla., this past weekend, the softball team suffered two different losses in a different fashion. The Tigers fell to the No. 11 Sooners Saturday 8-0, and then allowed a walk-off hit Sunday, losing 4-3.
Senior pitcher Jen Bruck gave up three runs to the Sooners in the first inning Saturday and it didn’t get any easier from there. The Sooners were up 6-0 by the end of the third inning and the Tigers earned only four hits for the game.
On Sunday, MU (33-12, 2-4 Big 12) took an early 2-0 lead thanks to senior first baseman Amanda Renth’s ninth home run of the season. The game was tied 3-3 from the third to the seventh innings, when Oklahoma staged a game-winning rally.
Tiger sophomore pitcher Jana Hainey walked Sooners freshman Haley Anderson, who advanced to second on a single and then scored on junior first baseman Samantha Ricketts’ single to center field to end the game.
