First Ward City Council candidate Paul Sturtz takes a moment alone during his watch party at The Pasta Factory on Tuesday night. Sturtz is leading in the race for the First Ward City Council seat, and would serve a three-year term if elected.
After nine years, First Ward City Councilwoman Almeta Crayton will no longer resume her usual chair at City Council meetings.
"I got my Monday nights back," Crayton said during her watch party at Boone Tavern.
Paul Sturtz was listed as the unofficial winner of the First Ward City Council representative, according to the Boone County Clerk Web site.
Sturtz received just more than 69 percent of the 979 votes. Crayton came in second with about 25 percent of the vote.
Boone County Clerk Wendy Noren will certify the results Wednesday morning.
Sturtz said he was enthusiastic for the position.
"I feel really good, you know. I'm satisfied and honored," he said. "It's definitely a weighty responsibility and challenge, but I'm definitely excited for it," Sturtz said after the results came in Tuesday night.
Crayton watched the results from her watch party in the basement of Boone Tavern.
As supporters and friends came by to check on her she told them all the same thing.
"I'm fine," she said. I'm fine."
Crayton-supporter Wynna Faye Elbert said she wouldn't be satisfied with the results until they were certified.
"It's not over, till it's over," she said. "But if Almeta did lose, we'll work with whoever the winner is."
