Some curators had spoken against the bill, but the board hadn’t adopted an official position.

In a special meeting of the UM system Board of Curators this morning, the curators voted 7-1-1 to oppose a bill which would give a vote to a student representative, UM spokeswoman Jennifer Hollingshead said.
Curator John Carnahan cast the dissenting vote, and Curator David Wasinger was absent. The board is preparing a resolution to circulate in Jefferson City this afternoon, Hollingshead said.
Several curators had previously voiced opposition to the bill, but the current board hadn’t officially adopted that position.
If the bill passes, the ninth position on the Board of Curators would go to a voting student member after congressional redistricting in 2010. The Missouri Constitution requires that the board have nine voting members, but the Missouri Revised Statutes requires that no more than one come from each of the state’s congressional districts. Missouri is expected to lose a congressional district.
