Correction Appended
At 8:51 p.m. Thursday, the Columbia Police Department SWAT team served a warrant to Blake S. Babbs, 22, of the 3900 block of Buttonwood Drive.
According to a CPD news release, Babbs was arrested on suspicion of felony possession with intent to distribute cocaine, felony possession of the controlled substances Alprazolam and Ambien and a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
MU junior Jordan B. Swiler, 21, of the 100 block of Old Plank Road, was at the scene when police arrived. He was charged with possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana, a misdemeanor. Swiler was issued a summons but was released at the scene.
According to the news release, the two suspects attempted to leave the scene when police arrived. The officers detained the suspects and obtained a search warrant.
When officers entered Babbs’ bedroom, they found 10 grams of powder cocaine, 10 grams of marijuana, four tablets of Ambien, four tablets of Alprazolam, a .46-caliber handgun and drug paraphernalia, according to the release.
The officers found additional evidence in an another suspect’s bedroom, but that suspect was not present. According to the news release, officers have identified the suspect and are attempting to locate him.
Columbia police could not be reached for comment.
The above report has been altered to reflect the following correction.
The story incorrectly stated that police served a warrant to MU junior Jordan B. Swiler. Police served the warrant to the residence of Blake S. Babbs. Although police said they found Swiler at that address, he was not a resident. Swiler was also only issued a summons.
The Maneater regrets the error.
