Columbia police said they are investigating an incident in which two men robbed and assaulted three other men as they were picking up newspapers to deliver.

The two suspects, holding firearms, entered the garage where the victims were working at 3100 Brown Station Road and made them lie down on the ground and give the suspects cash, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

The suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and were last seen running south down East Brown Station Road.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:05 a.m. on Wednesday in a building rented by the newspaper they were delivering.

The news release stated the suspects kicked the 43-year-old in the face. According to the news release, he was transported to the hospital, but CPD Sgt. Ken Hammond said he has since been released.

The other two victims were 19 and 51.

Hammond called this a “blitz-type robbery” or “takeover robbery.”

“They come in very quickly and gain control very quickly,” Hammond said

He said they are generally violent in nature.

The first suspect was described in the news release as a black male with a dark complexion, approximately 6 feet tall and 220 pounds and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a dark bandana over his face.
