The Columbia Police Department arrested two MU students Wednesday while serving a narcotics warrant at the 3900 block of Buttonwood Drive.
At about 3 p.m. that afternoon, police arrested sophomore Ryan R. Fairman and freshman Darren M. Voight, both on drug charges.
Lt. Scott Young said officers were let into the apartment to serve Voight a municipal warrant.
Officers noticed visible drug paraphernalia in the apartment. The officers were also able to smell marijuana, Young said.
“They had everyone vacate the building and then they secured the residence and gained probable cause,” Young said.
Fairman was arrested on suspicion of felony production of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Voight was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Fairman was admitted to Boone County Jail at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday and was released at 8:53 p.m.
His bond was set at $5,500, with $4,500 for distribution and manufacturing of a controlled substance, $500 for possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana and $500 for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The jail has no record of Voight being admitted.
Young said police have filed charges with the prosecutor’s office.
Fairman and Voight did not respond to a request seeking comment.
