College of Education Dean Carolyn Herrington will resign, efffective Aug. 1, according to a news release from the MU News Bureau.
Herrington, in her decision to resign, cited a desire to live closer to her family in Florida, the news release stated.
“It has been an honor to serve as dean of such a great College of Education,” Herrington stated. “However, for some time, I have wanted to be closer to my family in Florida. I’m going to miss all of my colleagues here, and I’ll be working to help make the transition seamless.”
Herrington came to MU in June 2005 as Dean of the College of Education, according to the news release.
She replaced former dean, Richard Andrews, who served in the position for 12 years.
Before coming to the university, Herrington was associate dean of academic affairs for the College of Education at Florida State University.
In the news release, released May 19, University of Missouri Provost Brian Foster stated he would begin an “accelerated internal process” to name an interim dean for the college.
MU spokesman Christian Basi said at this point, the provost’s office has not yet identified an interim dean for the College of Education.
“They would like to have an interim dean in place by Aug. 1, and then to start a national search soon after that,” Basi said about the search for a new dean.
Basi said the search for a new dean would take place during the 2008-2009 academic year.
