June 4, 2008
On Tuesday evening, Columbia police responded to a report of shots fired, in which two victims were shot at but not injured.
At about 8 p.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Sanford Ave., located between West Broadway and West Worley streets. Witnesses at the scene reported three shots fired in the area. The victims, a 28-year-old female and a 27-year old male, had left the scene, but officers located them.
According to a release by the Columbia Police Department, the victims said they had driven to the scene of the crime and were talking with people in the area when a suspect approached their vehicle and fired three shots at the rear of the vehicle. The victims left the scene, and the suspect ran in an unknown direction.
According to the release, the suspect is described as a young, black male, possibly in his late teens or early twenties. The release stated that the suspect had a light complexion, average height, a thin build and his hair was braided.
CPD Sgt. Bruce Houston said it had not been determined if the victims knew the suspect. He said witnesses were cooperative during the investigation.
The CPD has requested that anyone with additional information on the case to contact police through the Crimestoppers website, at 875tips.com. Informants on the case may be eligible for a $1,500 reward if the information given leads to an arrest.
