McDonald’s still lovin’ it on Lowry
The restaurant was slated to close after last semester.

The McDonald’s restaurant located in Lowry Mall has provided MU students with quick, inexpensive meal options for the past 30 years, and will continue to do so despite the previously intended closure of the facility.
The initial decision made by the McDonald’s Corporation, in agreement with the local franchise owners, was to forego renewing the 10-year lease.
This decision would have resulted in the closure of the restaurant after the Spring 2008 semester.
But, due to the influx of incoming freshman, as well as the temporary closing of Brady Food Court, the owners made the decision to renew the lease for another 10 years and keep McDonald’s open to MU students and the Columbia community.
MU sophomore Austin Schreiber said he is an avid McDonald’s customer.
“I’m relieved to hear that McDonald’s is not closing down,” Schreiber said. “It’s reassuring to know that if I need something eat while I’m stuck on campus, there’s a place that is affordable to grab a quick bite to eat. Rather than going to the over-priced campus markets, I can stop in to McDonald’s, where they are quick, effective, and where the food appeals to my taste buds.”
Employed directly beside McDonald’s at the Student Success Center, Catherine Hsieh said she dines once a week at the fast-food establishment.
“Students like it because it’s in the center of campus,” said Hsieh. “It has really fast service where students can get in and out of there to get to class.”
McDonald’s spokeswoman Lili Vianello said the on-campus location has experienced competition with such dining options as Wheatstone Bistro in Memorial Union, Brady Food Court, Subway in Brady Commons and many restaurants on Ninth Street. The restaurant is closed on weekends because of low sales on those days.
