Student found with gun at Hickman football jamboree
Aug. 26, 2008
Nearly 300 people attending festivities scattered to the parking lot Aug. 22 after three students - one wielding a gun - began fighting at Hickman High School.
A Columbia Police Department news release stated one of the juveniles pointed the weapon at another person involved in the altercation and put it back in his waistband. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m.
The suspect carrying the gun ran away from the others, but they soon caught and beat him. He lost the gun during the commotion and an "unknown female in the crowd" picked it up, the release stated.
The release stated that no one was hurt during the incident and no shots were fired, but officers on the scene arrested all three assailants.
The Division of Youth Services detained the student who brandished the gun for unlawful use of a weapon and juvenile delinquency. The others involved were arrested on suspicion of juvenile delinquency and were released to their guardians.
Hickman High School administrators were not available for comment.
